May We Have Your Apptention?

Updated: May 2, 2018

Here at PrettySick Supply, we're definitely digital reliant. Kristie and I both use a variety of apps on our phones to manage our lives... and our health!

Before the end of the year, we realized that, like pretty medical supplies- finding a central place to see what apps are available for the chronic illness/pain/disability community. We set a goal- create a section to share and showcase apps by, for, and of service to our community. If you're one of our Patreon Patrons, you've already seen a preview of a lot of the apps we're listing, but for everyone else: After 5 months of research, hunting, googling, iphone borrowing (oops, we're both android users!) design, layout, and fine tuning we're so incredibly excited to offer you our Apps section! You can get to it from the navigation menu at the top of every page, and you'll find apps broken down by categories in that dropdown.

To make it easier to browse the section, we've done something a little different too- you'll notice a back and forward button on each App page so if you want to just... flip page to page without having to pop up to the menu bar- you can do that too.

Each App is represented by its icon and a screenshot. We added a short description and some pertinent info like the cost, what languages are available, and if it's location-specific. You'll find 1-3 icons below each description: a google play icon, an app store icon and a website icon. Depending on what's available for each app- you can click those small white pills to go to the associated link and either download the app or research it further on your own.

Some apps also have web-sites available so you can coordinate on your computer too, though so far, we haven't indicated that specifically (we may in the future, but for now- we wanted to get this baby launched!)

We have added image descriptions of the App icons and Screenshots, which we included not just for identification purposes but also because we know... sometimes you want to see what an interface will actually look like before you download it. Different looks and different interfaces work for different people.

The apps we've found are divided into several main categories:

-Accessibility

-Color & Fidget

-Food & Drink

-Journaling

-Medication

-Menstruation

-Mental Health

-Mindfulness

-Productivity

-Symptoms

-Trans-Friendly

Symptoms is broken up even further because once we got rolling... holy moly... did we find a LOT to share! From all-purpose symptom trackers to super-specific illnesses to support groups and social networks specific to certain conditions, we did our best to gather the best of the best. For the most part, the apps we've shared rank 4 stars or above on either the app store or the google play store or both. And a lot of them were recommended by our Pretties, so thank you all so much for your input!

As always when we add a new resource- we definitely welcome further input. So if you know of an app we should be listing- don't hesitate to reach out. There are just the 2 of us here, so we may miss things from time to time.

To that end- our Trans-Friendly Apps section is sadly small right now. So if you know of any trans-friendly apps that would be good for chronic illness/pain/disabled trans men and women- please tell us! We recognize that a lot of standard apps just do not service our trans brothers and sisters well and we want to share resources for ALL of our community.

In the meantime, thank you all for your patience while we put this new section together. We wanted to launch it a lot sooner- but SarahCate got waylaid by a long run of pain flares, and Kristie's new job picked up steam which meant work stalled for longer than either of us wanted.

We have added some new shops around the site, and don't forget our new Service Animal section too! Our next big project is already in the planning stages and we'll probably make an announcement and call for content next month so keep your eyes peeled for that in June!

CAMPAIGN(S) OF THE MONTH:

Normally, each month, we feature a single fundraising campaign. We like to share these links so that visitors who have the means know where need may be and can help folks in our community who are trying to get access to care or equipment they otherwise can't afford. Because there are so many folks needing help right now, we're going to start sharing up to 3 campaigns a month- in hopes that we can help spread the love as widely as possible. If you are able, please consider donating to one of these fundraising campaign to help those who need it.

A version of the Homer Simpson Meme with the cartoon sign reading, "Do it for her" but instead of pictures of Lisa Simpson, it's covered with photos of different golden labs of varying ages.

This is my fundraiser to pay for a psychiatric service dog.

I have autism, ptsd and im deaf.

A service dog would be amazing help and it will help me obtain a better quality of life.

Please donate and share! Anything helps!

A Split screen- on the left a photo of a black woman on a mobility scooter. She is taking a selfie of herself in a mirror. On the left side is the scooter alone facing front to show a license plate that reads, "S.H.I.E.L.D."

I’m in a crisis right now. My mobility scooter has completely ceased to function. I have to ship it 3000 miles away for repairs asap. This couldn’t have happened at a worse time for me–Universal Fan Con’s ‘indefinite postponement’/cancellation hit me really hard, & I’ve been struggling to earn enough money for months after losing my disability benefits in January. Losing my mobility is unbearable. Without my mobility device, I cannot work so my life has come to a standstill. If you’d like to help, donate or reblog please:
